Background of Veterinary Clinic UMK

Veterinary Clinic UMK (KVUMK) is one of the units at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. It was officially fully operated on 29 September 2013, playing a role as one of the practical veterinary clinic that provide treatment and care to various pets by using the latest technologies and facilities.

KVUMK is operated by qualified, skillful, and experienced clinicians which are whom being assisted by dedicated and caliber supported staffs. It is also as a platform for the faculty’s undergraduate and graduate students studies.

Academic Programme

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Industry based on livestock is rapidly growing in all aspects, which placed livestock among the important source of food in Agriculture apart from the recreational, sports, security, occupation (profession), entertainment and the scientific research. Livestock is being that is integral to the lives of humanity. The success of humankind is dependent on the wellbeing of livestock. Hence, it is the responsibility of humankind to ensure that there is a good balance and synergy between humanity and livestock.

Objectives

At the end of the programme, the students are able :

  • To portray an understanding in the knowledge and high level of skills in veterinary medicine as well as the ability to apply the knowledge on relationship between animal health with success of humankind in generating a healthy national economy.
  • To apply the principles of veterinary science, diagnosis, management, prevention and control of disease and all techniques to ensure the wellbeing of animal as a priority in industry based on livestock.
  • To do intensive analysis by identifying the problem in veterinary medicine and make innovative and creative decisions to solve problems regarding the quality of animal’s wellbeing. Also graduate need to be able to think scientifically and critically based on the knowledge in order to creates an effective livestock industry and has additional and commercial value.
  • To mastering the high level of skills to handle all cases regarding animal diseases, efficient and able to identify the techniques or appropriate action in managing the problem.
  • To think scientifically, contribute ideas to solve clinical problems accurately with creativitity and innovation, also cost and time effective.

Emphasizing on professionalism, ethics, also high value in upholding responsibilities, apart from able to work as a team to solve problems regarding animals’s health inthe transmission of disease, animal wellbeing and supporting the industry based on livestock as business commodity.

In conjunction with the job scope and description as a veterinarian, graduate need to be able to communicate effectively in verbal or on verbal through discussion, presentation, writing, report and use suitable communication methods according to time, culture, person and place.

Graduate produced able to create own profession by using the knowledge through entrepreneurship and capitalize on business opportunities and jobs.

Able to generate a healthy national economy in industry especially agriculture, animal based food production, recreation and tourism.

Graduate able to show leadership in fulfilling duty as a veterinarian.

Course duration: 10 semesters (5 years)

Total credit for graduation : 194 credits

Career prospect

With high level skills and adequate training in Veterinary Medicine, graduate from this programme not only needed in agriculture but also in the other profession related to care and wellbeing of animal. Graduate can also contribute in public service as veterinarian.

Graduate also can involve in research to produce latest innovation in an effort to contribute in expending the veterinary medicine industry and indirectly triumph the agriculture industry. Career prospects can also be created through use of knowledges, skills, supports and join ventures from local and international companies. Graduate of Veterinary Medicine can involve in entrepreneurship and create business like hospital and clinic for animals, apart from providing consultations and services.

Compulsory University Course (18 credit)

Core specialty course (164 credit)

Elective entrepreneurship course (12 credit)

  • Course Fees (Once throughout course): RM 1325.00
  • Every semester fees:
    • Study fee: RM1462.00
    • Additional Fees: RM980.00
  • Total fees throughout course: Rm 25,745.00 (10 semesters)

Admission Requirement

STPM/ or equivalent

  • Obtain minimum of Grade B (NGMP00) for STPM in the following subjects:
    • Biology
    • Additional Mathematics and
  • Any one (1) of the following subjects
    • Physics
    • Chemistry
    • Advanced mathematics
Notes:
  • Candidate who does not pass Additional Mathematics at STPM level must at least has credit in Additional Mathematics at SPM level.
  • Obtained at least credit at SPM level for following subjects:
    1. English
    2. Mathematics
  • Obtained at least Band 3 in Malaysian University Engllish Test(MUET)
  • All candidates who have been shortlisted will be interviewed by Veterinary Medicine Faculty UMK personnel.
  • Matriculation candidate
General University terms
  • Pass SPM/equivalent with credit (Grade C) in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia subject or credit (Grade C) in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia July Paper and
  • Pass matriculation KPM/Asasi Sains UM/Asasi Undang-undang with at least CGPA 2.00 and
  • Obtained at least Band 1 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

Matriculation / Equivalent

Obtained at least Gred B (3.00) in Matriculation/Asasi in the following subjects

  • Biology
  • Mathematics

And any one (1) of the following subjects

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
Notes:
  • Candidate who does not pass Mathematics subject at matriculation level/Asasi has to at least obtained credit in Additional Mathematics at SPM level
  • Obtained at least credit in SPM for following subjects
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Obtained at least Band 3 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET)
  • All candidates who have been shortlisted will be interviewed by Veterinary Medicine Faculty UMK personnel.
Candicate with Diploma/ equivalent

General University terms

  • Pass Diploma/equivalent with acknowledgement by Malaysian government and approved by IPTA senate or
  • Pass STPM year 2007 or previously with at least CGPA 00 and obtained at least
    • Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in General Studies subject and
    • Grade C(NGMP 2.00) in 2 other subjects or
  • Pass Matriculation KPM/Asasi Sains UM/Asasi Uitm year 2007 with at least CGPA 2.00 and
  • Pass SPM or equivalent with credit (Grade c) in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia or credit (Grade C) Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Melayu July Paper and
  • Obtained at least Band 1 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

Diploma / Equivalent

Obtained Diploma with credit in related field from an institution acknowledged by government, MQA and approval by UMK senate and obtained CGPA at least 3.00

or

Obtained other qualification which acknowledged as equivalent by Malaysian government and approved by UMK senate and obtained CGPA at least 3.00

and

Obtained at least credit at SPM level in 5 subjects including

  • English and
  • Mathematics

Notes:

  • Intake and duration of study will be depending on the exemption of the approved subjects by UMK. Candidate need to submit complete exam result during Diploma (from semester 1 till then last semester) to UMK. Candidate also need to submit copy of Diploma/equivalent or confirmation of thegraduation letter and other supporting letters with Copy of Online Application Form aslisted before application closing date.
  • Obtained at least Band 3 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET)
  • All candidates who have been shortlisted will be interviewed by Veterinary Medicine Faculty UMK personnel.
